I have just finished year 2 of my course. But the journey and the struggle made me almost gave up. Fortunately I can only THINK on surrendering but it is never a choice. So, in order to motivate myself, I had to think of a way to survive the 2nd year. And that is: GREECE.
It may be a cliché, Greece is one of the top holiday destination for almost everyone. For a student pocket, flying to Greece from London is not quite a friendly budget, especially when taking budget airline is never really an option for personal preference (#firstworldproblem). Hence, after a couple months of luring and browsing and a lot of consideration, I decided to just book the flight to Athens.
Planning Athens was quite easy, but not so much on Santorini. Athens was relatively cheaper than Santorini and it has more historical site to visit. We stayed in Melia Athens for 2 nights. The location was great and the price was also reasonable.
We arrived in Athens in the afternoon. The flight was 3,5 hours journey from London Heathrow airport. Took the train to the town to check in at the hotel, it was a 45-mins ride. After we checked in, we had lunch and decided that we would take the first day easy, as we were quite drained from waking up so early that morning.
Next day, we visited the historical sites and strolled around the city. The city feels like an ancient town that's hardly got furbished, but I felt that is what is unique about it. Perhaps it is not everyone's cup of tea, mind you, if you are more into beach and city holiday breaks. Well, I am too, but I don't mind looking at historical sites that were silent witness of what had happened centuries ago.
The next morning, it's time to leave for Santorini! The highlight of this trip, of course! We took a ferry there - an 8-hour journey that stops in each of the islands it passes. It is cheaper as well, and it looked like a good idea to have a glance at each of the islands, and how glad we did!
Santorini was definitely the highlight of the whole trip. The scenery was beyond beautiful and picturesque, everything before my eyes are like literally coming out from the postcards or pinterest. MAGNIFICENT!
We ate so much Greek food and wine because they tasted so GOOD and healthy!
